Bio

Born into a musical family in Rajasthan, India, Deepak first studied music with his father Shri P.N. Vyas, and continued with masters Ustad R.F. Dagar, Ustad Moinuddin Khan and Mohinderjit Singh. Deepak is an accomplished singer and performer on harmonium, guitar and keyboards. He has performed in India and across the U.S. in concert halls, colleges, temples and ashrams, delighting both Eastern and Western audiences. His music creates a deep spiritual energy that touches each listener. Deepak is best known for his soulful renditions of devotional bhajans and romantic ghazals, which are ancient poems set to music, often of his own composition.

Deepak teaches vocal and instrumental music in the New York and Philadelphia areas calling his method of vocal instruction "Yoga of Voice" based on the pranayama practice of breath control. He is on the faculty of the East-West School of Music at Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York where he performs frequently in concert. Deepak's recent appearances have been at Christie's, Deepak Chopra's radio show at Sirius Satellite radio, the New York Chopra Center, the ARCH SPACE, Jivamukti Yoga and at PIANOS at a benefit for SAMAR. He traveled on a cross-country tour with the Rajasthani gypsy troupe Musafir in the fall of 2007.

Deepak has sung on the Voice of America, on Indian National TV (Door Dershan) and on All India Radio. He has appeared on ITV and TVAsia and his performances have been reviewed in various Indian publications. Deepak's original composition "Moray Avugoon' won the Oceanic Award in the Inspirational Division of the musical competition "In the Name of Salt" in 2006.

On his recent trip to India, Deepak performed at the Shiva Temple in Jaipur for the Lord Shiva Birthday Festival. He also performed on Vividh Bharati and MYFM radio. He recorded a show for Bhasker TV and sang at a house concert in Calcutta.

Deepak's CD, "Enchanted Evening" was created from a live outdoor concert and features Deepak on vocals and harmonium with tabla accompaniment by Narendra Budkhakar. His new CD "The Universal Songs of Kabir", produced by the Foundation for Universal Sacred Music features Kabir's poems with Deepak's original musical compositions, has just been released.
