September 11 A STRONG FOUNDATION: 4-WEEK SERIES FOR STUDENTS AT ALL LEVELS
with Jill Abelson (Jivamukti SF & DC)
San Francisco's Yoga Loft studio is excited to offer a new 4-week series, based on the popular Jivamukti Basics series, ideal for students who want to develop a yoga practice that has a strong physical foundation, paired with spiritual insight.  Each week of the month features a different, in-depth concentration after a thorough warm up: standing poses, forward bends, back bends, and finally,
combinations and inversions. We also cover the art and flow of Surya Namaskar - sun salutes
Great fun for beginning and continuing students, this series helps you go deep and strong, and build a solid foundation for a lifetime of yoga.  The spirit of the course is interactive and intimate, with precise focus on alignment including adjustments, use of props and generous individualized attention.
San Francisco's Yoga Loft 4-week Series starts Saturday Sept 11, 2010 and meets twice weekly Saturdays, 10:45am-12:15pm Mondays, 7:30pm-9pm

COST: $75 for 4 weeks (8 classes) / $20 drop-ins

VINYASA IMMERSION OF ASHTANGA WITH LARRY HOBBS & JIVAMUKTI WITH LAURA MANSFIELD GOLDEN
Autumn in the mountains is a time and place of beautiful transformation, slowing down, turning inward.
Over the course of this weekend, we will examine outwardly and inwardly the seasonal cycling of energy to a more tamasic balance. Tamas is often seen as being less desirable than the other two gunas (qualities or tendencies )rajas (preservation) and sattva (creation) but all three are intrinsic to all living beings and serve equally important roles. Tamas is associated with darkness, destruction, death, sloth and resistance, but these qualities are only negative if that is the lens through which we view them.

As the schedule allows, each day of the retreat will include an early morning practice of pranayama (breathing exercises) and dhyana (meditation), two asana (physical postures) sessions per day, an evening kirtan (devotional chanting), and three delicious, healthy vegan meals using local, seasonal vegetables. Participation in all events is strongly encouraged but completely voluntary. Afternoons will include several hours of free time to explore the stunning surroundings of the surrounding mountains.

During one of the afternoon sessions, come and plant 5 of your own trees and enjoy a walk in the Engelesha Forest with our forester, identifying plants, collecting seeds if appropriate / in season and you may even get a chance to spot the elusive and stunning Colobus Monkeys that live in the forest canopy.
Medicinal Plant Walk- $30 per person. Meet a local herbalist and healer. Walk in the bush for 1 hour, gathering a variety of commonly available and sustainably harvestable plants, which are used to cure common ailments. Return to the Conservancy laboratory visit our herbarium, identify the plants with local and Latin names, make plant pressings if desired and learn how the remedies are prepared. This is an opportunity to buy organic, locally extracted essential oils.
Bird Watching Walk- $30 per person.  The Laikipia Nature Conservancy is home to over 450 species of birds, many of which are on the IUCN red list of endangered species. It is also on the path along the Rift Valley that the migratory birds take who spend their summers in Europe and their winters in Africa. We have a resident ornithological expert. Enjoy an afternoon discussion and a walk to an area of interest to do some bird spotting.
Trip to the Hot Springs and walk to the waterfall- $30 per person. Visit our natural hot springs- nestled at the bottom of a beautiful valley, surrounded by palm trees and giant rock totems, we have purposefully left the springs in their natural form and one deep plunge pool is just the perfect way to while away an afternoon. Further down the valley, via a walk which requires you to traverse across the river on fallen trees and cling on to the edge of rock faces, there is a 300 foot waterfall- the walk to get there is challenging and beautiful and you return feeling like you have just visited an entirely different world.
