VINYASA KRAMA - THE CONSCIOUS LANGUAGE OF SEQUENCING YOGA POSTURES
A Sequencing Workshop for Yoga Teachers with Cassandra Rigney
"The word vinyasa means 'a joining or linking mechanism.'  Krama means 'the process'; it refers to the succession of changes that occurs from moment to moment.  Vinyasa krama means the succession of changes undertaken with a single pointed intention, free from fluctuation." - Jivamukti Yoga, Chapter 8

Cassandra is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher known for her challenging sequences and fluid transitions.  In this workshop you will learn the meaning of rhythm and movement by understanding the language of sequencing and how to consciously choose asana combinations that will encourage the body to unfold to its full potential while at the same time honoring the safety of the student.
There is no randomness in the original Jivamukti sequences designed as a blueprint by Jivamukti founders Sharon Gannon and David Life, nor are they choreographed. Each one is designed to flow perfectly into the other, taking the body from one state to the other and back again, and maximizing the release of energy within the body. We will serve our students best if we learn  to maximize their experience of asana.

There are many things to consider when sequencing asana; are you building a class or just putting in random poses?  Are your inhales and exhales coordinated with the proper movement?  Are you sacrificing proper alignment in order to sequence?  Do you incorporate seamless transitions into your sequences?  These topics and many others will be covered in the workshop, which will revolve around a class as an example of Vinyasa Krama.

All yoga teachers  are welcome as well as those interested in learning about sequencing

RELAX, RENEW AND RESTORE-A HOLISTIC RESPONSE TO STRESS
with Jivamukti Yoga teacher Jeff Brown
The pace and rhythm of our culture, coupled with life's challenges, can produce a cascade of stress hormones in the brain that have many effects on the body.  Some of these effects can have a negative impact on the immune system leading to an increased risk of disease and emotional imbalance.  Come join Jeff Brown to learn how through mindfulness we can shift from a stress reaction to a relaxation response followed by an immersion that will help reset the body's natural rhythm and neurological patterns.  Using yoga asana, active and restorative, pranayama, mindfulness meditation and aromatherapy, Jeff will help you drop into a state of deep relaxation and awareness of the present moment so essential for the body-mind to restore its natural rhythm, balance and joy.

With Sura Das & The Temple Bhajan Band
The Temple Bhajan Band is a group of devotional chanters that tours Southern California's Yoga Studios, Festivals, Retreats, and various social events. They have been together for over 8 years. The Temple Bhajan Band plays ancient Vedic bhajans, which include mantras and chants from spiritual India. Many of the chants are done in a responsive fashion where the audience can participate and experience the purifying pleasure of the chanting.

LOVERS:MYSTICS:SAINTS
A talk with Kimberley Theresa
Love. We are obsessed, crazed, and sometimes transported by love.
Are relationships a path to fulfillment, or the cause of all our attachments?
Are "Spiritual Partners" a fallacy, or for real?
This evening will explore how great yogis use love--not as a distraction from spirit--but as a path to open the heart, focus the mind and forge a new model of a "beloved" relationship.
Explore how we can use relationship in a practical world to fuel a spiritual practice, and face our darkness with courage.  We will discuss how to open to love as a tool to reach our dreams. And use as our guide ancient texts, reviewing practical techniques for every day living. Come discover how to find love, keep it, grow it, and use it as a path to your own destiny.
This workshop will be interactive and include self-reflective activities.

For those who want to:

Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga teachers, Rima Rabbath and Yogeswari (Estelle Eichenberger) will take you deeper into the study of Jivamukti Yoga and its five tenets: Ahimsa (non-violence and compassion towards all beings), Bhakti (offering everything you do to something greater), Dhyana (meditation as a means of serving the greater whole), Sastra (the study of ancient scriptures) and Nada Yoga (integration of music, singing and deep listening).

This week promises to be an unforgettable experience as you immerse yourself in the Jivamukti method and partake in an intimate satsang under the sun.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS KIRTAN WITH ISHWARI & SRUTI RAM
This is high energy kirtan. It is both ancient and modern with a spirit of joy that is pulsating and catching. They use harmony as a way of communing with the divine and together evoke a feeling of bliss.  It reminds us that we are all divine expressions of the same human family.
Says Stephan Rechtschaffen, co-founder of Omega Institute, "Sruti Ram and Ishwari have created a CD of kirtan and sound that delivers a profound experience for the listener. Their performance at Omega's Ecstatic Chant created a feeling of spirit that moved all who participated. They offer an authentic experience of bhajan."

YOGA OF VOICE A WORKSHOP SERIES WITH DEEPAK KUMAR PAREEK
6 classes
For the first time at Jivamukti Yoga School, acclaimed musician and singer, Deepak Kumar Pareek will teach the fundamentals of Indian vocal music using the traditional method of "call and response". Members of the class practice singing as a group. Deepak calls his program "Yoga of Voice" referring to pranayama, the fourth limb in the eight limbs of Raja Yoga, or the control of the life force through correct breathing practices.

Each class starts by practicing the basic seven notes (swar) of the Indian music scale "sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa". Students then begin to learn the beautiful bhajans (devotional songs) and ghazals (romantic songs often based on Kabir's poetry) that Deepak is so well known for in his performances and on his CD "Enchanted Evening". Deepak has proficiency in harmonium, guitar, tanpura and keyboard and has one of the most beautiful, soulful voices of his generation.

The overall feeling of Deepak's class is one of relaxation and meditation. Deepak believes strongly that every person has a beautiful voice and through practice can develop it to bring about a feeling of accomplishment and joy. No singing experience is necessary yet singers who have been trained in the Western style can benefit greatly from learning music that has been sung throughout the ages in India.

UNRAVELING THE MYSTERY OF YOUR HIPS & CORE WITH JIVAMUKTI YOGA
with Sandhi Ferreira
In the last several years a disease has run ramped in the yoga community we at Jivamukti have been calling: "yoga butt". This is when you develop a pain in your "butt" or more specifically the area of your sacral iliac joint. This usually results from a misalignment in your pelvis during asana practice as well as a lack of engagement in your center and a lost connection to the earth. In this workshop we will practice how to deepen our awareness of our centers and our foundations in the likely asana "yoga butt" instigators and how to stay engaged and aligned. For all levels.

SHIVARUDRA BALAYOGI VISITING JIVAMUKTI
Instruction and meditation with Shivarudra Balayogi. Shivarudra Balayogi is someone extremely rare, a yogi of the highest attainment. A life long monk, Baba's life story is truly amazing and inspiring. After twenty years of selfless service to his guru he spent five years in a small dark room meditating day and night. During that time in samadhi the remnants of the individual ego merged permanently with it's source and Baba emerged with the realization that "all is Self and Self is all". Warm, compassonate, filled with spiritual wisdom, he has dedicated his life to helping people wherever he goes. Continuing the mission of his beloved Guru Shivabala Yogi, he travels the world constantly, inspiring  people to seek inner and outer peace.

Being in his presence rarely fails to bring new meaning and vibrance to peoples lives. Baba joyfully shares the living truth of Advaitya and offers to teach Jangama Dyana (meditation of Eternal Existence) to all who wish to learn. He has never asked for compensation and requests those associated with him not to do so. When questioned about compensation Baba replied, "We are happy with what the Divine gives us. As for me, I have been paid in Full." Come learn and practice meditation with a True Master. There will be an opportunity to ask spiritual questions and receive personal blessings. Programs are free, donations appreciated. For additional information: www.shivarudrabalayogi.com

OPENING THE HEART OF BACKBENDS
with Sandhi Ferreira
Romance your soul and surrender your heart to the sky as you plant your feet into the earth! The practice of backbends are about moving into the future and letting go of the fear of the unknown. If fear and hesitation exists as we attempt to open our hearts, pain will be the result. (And often in the back!) But as we practice these asanas with heightened awareness of our connection to our strengths, the earth, and those we love, we overcome our fears and hesitations and become love itself! This workshop has something for all levels.
