WEDNESDAY NIGHTS KIRTAN
With Ishwari & Sruti Ram
This is high energy kirtan. It is both ancient and modern with a spirit of joy that is pulsating and catching. They use harmony as a way of communing with the divine and together evoke a feeling of bliss.  It reminds us that we are all divine expressions of the same human family.
Says Stephan Rechtschaffen, co-founder of Omega Institute, "Sruti Ram and Ishwari have created a CD of kirtan and sound that delivers a profound experience for the listener. Their performance at Omega's Ecstatic Chant created a feeling of spirit that moved all who participated. They offer an authentic experience of bhajan."

"The more that Sruti Ram & Ishwari played, the more faces lit up; and the healing and soothing effect of the music could be seen and felt.  Smiles prevailed as the music filled the room."   Richard Humleker, Chief of Development, The Center for Discovery
"The entire ensemble was so joyous and electrifying that I have carried the chanting with me through my daily life and into my sleeping life, as well."  Dorothy D., Art Historian

MINDFULNESS BASED STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM (MBSR) WITH JEFF BROWN
This course is for anyone who has stress, anxiety, illness or pain and who desires to live more effectively in the present moment.  The classes include instruction and guidance in mindfulness meditation practice, body awareness, gentle yoga postures, group discussion and self-inquiry.
We will learn to experience our body and mind with present moment to moment awareness and discover how to step out of automatic pilot and respond more effectively.  We will explore how our thoughts, emotions (such as anxiety or depression) and habits affect our stress levels and how this increased awareness may transform difficult emotions, stress, and physical pain.
People who have taken the course report an increased ability to focus, more skills in coping with stress, an increased sense of clarity, calmness and well being and a corresponding sense of confidence, energy and self-esteem.
This course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is modeled on the renowned program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at The University of Massachusetts Medical Center.  Since the program's inception in 1979 over 17,000 people have attended.
"Mindfulness is not just a form of meditation.  Rather it is a way of being that may allow you to appreciate more fully each moment in your life." Saki Santorelli

"Mindfulness is revealing and it is healing."  Thich Nhat Hanh

THE SCIENCE OF VIBRATION
Kundalini Yoga and Sacred Sound
The Science of Vibration:
Kundalini Yoga & Sacred Sound
with "L"

Illuminate the inherent power of your word and expand conscious to the primal element of manifestation through sound. Broken down the word
Mantra" can be more easily understood: "Man" means "mind" and "Trang" means "to move" as in "transport". Our mantra is what we project outward and inward that shapes our perceived reality. In this workshop we will commune with that power of our individual projection while in asana and meditation. The Science of Vibration works with the sacred sound current to manifest peace and sustain happiness in our modern lives. The workshop will climax during an extended healing with the harmonious and penetrating sounds of the gong.

SALAMBA SIRSASANA (SUPPORTED HEADSTAND) WORKSHOP
Seeing the World from a New Perspective w/ Maria Massana
It is said that headstand is the king of all asana. Because of the many benefits it provides to the physical body and mind: Improves blood flow to pituitary and pineal glands, relieves strain and fatigue in legs and feet; aids in digestion and elimination, evokes calm mind, and much more. This all leads to self-realization with the practice of just one asana.
The students will be guided through a Jivamukti Yoga class.  The class is designed to open the body and focus the mind in preparation for headstand practice.  The workshop provides the students with a systematic way to safely practice headstand without jumping or the use of the wall.  In the workshop, you will learn how to enter headstand, what to do to safely hold headstand, and how to slowly (with control) come out of headstand.  We will explore the bandhas and why they are important in headstand.  You will receive a handout which contains step-by-step instructions on practicing headstand, including an alignment diagram.  Not only will you gain insights on the headstand practice, but perhaps even come up into headstand for the first time.  You will leave this workshop knowing how to safely practice headstand on your own.
Recently, as it pertains to headstand, the below note was posted:
"Inversions like headstand and shoulderstand are the most powerful of the asanas, affecting one physically: reversing the aging process, mentally: stimulating intuition and clarity and spiritually: expanding consciousness leading to enlightenment. But to receive those benefits one must hold the asana for at least five minutes. The Jivamukti Yoga School is proud to be one of the few schools in the world where students turn upside down for a minimum of 10 minutes in every open class."
Bio:  Maria Massana is a longtime practitioner of yoga and meditation.   She teaches yoga, counsel clients on their health, conducts wellness workshops and makes raw food energy snacks.  For more information on the instructor, visit www.massanawellness.com

SOUND FROM THE HEART: AN EVENING OF OVERTONE SINGING MEDITATIONS
Baird Hersey & Prana
Prana is a Sanskrit word meaning: breath, vital energy, life force.  It is the perfect name for a group who uses only their breath to make sound to relax the body, still the mind and open the heart. Prana is a nine voice, a cappella, overtone singing choir. Their sound is a unique mixture of western vocal music and the musics of Tibet, Mongolia and India. Applying the ancient traditional techniques of multiphonic chant, and throat singing to the natural singing voice, they each sing two mellifluous pitches at once, creating beautiful rising harmonies, shimmering vocal textures, and high arcing melodies.

"It is our intention to create something so beautiful that it will change people's lives. Falling short of that, (laughter) which we inevitable will, we hope to provide people with a moment of peaceful contemplation and transformation."

OPENING THE HEART OF BACKBENDS
w/ Sandhi Ferreira
Romance your soul and surrender your heart to the sky as you plant your feet into the earth! The practice of backbends are about moving into the future and letting go of fear of the unknown. If fear and hesitation remains as we attempt to open our hearts, pain results. (And often in the back!) But as we practice these asanas with heightened awareness of our connection to our strengths, the earth, and those we love, we overcome our fears and hesitations and  become love itself!
