VINYASA KRAMA - THE CONSCIOUS LANGUAGE OF SEQUENCING YOGA POSTURES A Sequencing Workshop for Yoga Teachers with Cassandra Rigney "The word vinyasa means 'a joining or linking mechanism.' Krama means 'the process'; it refers to the succession of changes that occurs from moment to moment. Vinyasa krama means the succession of changes undertaken with a single pointed intention, free from fluctuation." - Jivamukti Yoga, Chapter 8 Cassandra is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher known for her challenging sequences and fluid transitions. In this workshop you will learn the meaning of rhythm and movement by understanding the language of sequencing and how to consciously choose asana combinations that will encourage the body to unfold to its full potential while at the same time honoring the safety of the student. There is no randomness in the original Jivamukti sequences designed as a blueprint by Jivamukti founders Sharon Gannon and David Life, nor are they choreographed. Each one is designed to flow perfectly into the other, taking the body from one state to the other and back again, and maximizing the release of energy within the body. We will serve our students best if we learn to maximize their experience of asana. There are many things to consider when sequencing asana; are you building a class or just putting in random poses? Are your inhales and exhales coordinated with the proper movement? Are you sacrificing proper alignment in order to sequence? Do you incorporate seamless transitions into your sequences? These topics and many others will be covered in the workshop, which will revolve around a class as an example of Vinyasa Krama. All yoga teachers are welcome as well as those interested in learning about sequencing Speaker Bio |

RELAX, RENEW AND RESTORE-A HOLISTIC RESPONSE TO STRESS The pace and rhythm of our culture, coupled with life's challenges, can produce a cascade of stress hormones in the brain that have many effects on the body. Some of these effects can have a negative impact on the immune system leading to an increased risk of disease and emotional imbalance. Come join Jeff Brown to learn how through mindfulness we can shift from a stress reaction to a relaxation response followed by an immersion that will help reset the body's natural rhythm and neurological patterns. Using yoga asana, active and restorative, pranayama, mindfulness meditation and aromatherapy, Jeff will help you drop into a state of deep relaxation and awareness of the present moment so essential for the body-mind to restore its natural rhythm, balance and joy. YOGA OF VOICE A WORKSHOP SERIES WITH DEEPAK KUMAR PAREEK 6 classes For the first time at Jivamukti Yoga School, acclaimed musician and singer, Deepak Kumar Pareek will teach the fundamentals of Indian vocal music using the traditional method of "call and response". Members of the class practice singing as a group. Deepak calls his program "Yoga of Voice" referring to pranayama, the fourth limb in the eight limbs of Raja Yoga, or the control of the life force through correct breathing practices. Each class starts by practicing the basic seven notes (swar) of the Indian music scale "sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa". Students then begin to learn the beautiful bhajans (devotional songs) and ghazals (romantic songs often based on Kabir's poetry) that Deepak is so well known for in his performances and on his CD "Enchanted Evening". Deepak has proficiency in harmonium, guitar, tanpura and keyboard and has one of the most beautiful, soulful voices of his generation. The overall feeling of Deepak's class is one of relaxation and meditation. Deepak believes strongly that every person has a beautiful voice and through practice can develop it to bring about a feeling of accomplishment and joy. No singing experience is necessary yet singers who have been trained in the Western style can benefit greatly from learning music that has been sung throughout the ages in India. Speaker Bio |

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS KIRTAN WITH ISHWARI & SRUTI RAM This is high energy kirtan. It is both ancient and modern with a spirit of joy that is pulsating and catching. They use harmony as a way of communing with the divine and together evoke a feeling of bliss. It reminds us that we are all divine expressions of the same human family. Says Stephan Rechtschaffen, co-founder of Omega Institute, "Sruti Ram and Ishwari have created a CD of kirtan and sound that delivers a profound experience for the listener. Their performance at Omega's Ecstatic Chant created a feeling of spirit that moved all who participated. They offer an authentic experience of bhajan." "The more that Sruti Ram & Ishwari played, the more faces lit up; and the healing and soothing effect of the music could be seen and felt. Smiles prevailed as the music filled the room." Richard Humleker, Chief of Development, The Center for Discovery "The entire ensemble was so joyous and electrifying that I have carried the chanting with me through my daily life and into my sleeping life, as well."
